DigiCel FlipBook Helps 3D Animators Work Faster and Better

mayabowlingdemo “Posing a character on the computer takes way too much time because of all the controls that have to be manipulated, I find that I can draw and animate a simple stick figure inside of FlipBook to represent my character and solve the performance in real time. When I’m happy with my performance then I can bring my FlipBook images into Maya as an ImagePlane and use them for reference for my CG version. All the directors love this way of working because they get to see a blue print of the shot very quickly instead of seeing a weird CG blocking pass with floaty computer in-betweens.”

said by Jason Ryan, Supervising Animator, Walt Disney Animation Studio

Let’s see how he can create nice animation, very simple and very fast.

Making the smallest Macintosh

hackintosh_mini9_topcomp

Unbelievable ! So, just make this note on my blog for sometimes in the future if i get dell mini9. i would like to test it for my own.? Let’s start. All you needs are the followings,

1.Dell Mini 9 With 16GB SSD or higher (8GB SSDs will techincally work, but it will take some fiddling not covered by this guide)

2. Retail copy of OS X 10.5.x (NOT an OEM copy that comes with a new Mac)

3.? A USB flash drive 8GB or higher

4. An external USB DVD drive

5.? The “Type11″ Bootloader: DellMiniBoot123v8.01.iso.zip (download link in this forum post)

6. Blank CD to burn bootloader image (I actually used version 8.0 of Type11 on my CD-if your boot process with 8.01 is different than what’s spelled out in this guide, you can download 8.0 here. Both should work.)

7.? Windows PC for preparing the flash drive (if DVD drive works fine, this is optional)

For more instructions to follow step by step please see the website.

Autodesk Softimage 7.5 Launch

softimage75After the aquisition since the end of last year, 2008, now Autodesk has released the new update to the former Softimage xsi product and renamed it Autodesk Softimage 7.5 which come into 2 versions, Autodesk Softimage and Autodesk Softimage Advanced. They also change the Face Robot to Autodesk Face Robot 2009.

Key New Features in Autodesk Softimage 7.5
UV unfolding technology: Softimage now features UV unfolding technology that enables artists to unwrap polygon models with just a few clicks. This technology works well on complex organic models, which would be difficult to unwrap manually. Softimage 7.5 also provides UV editing tools that help artists quickly create and edit UV maps.

mental ray 3.7+: Version 3.7+ of the mental ray renderer is now integrated into Softimage 7.5. Highlights include improvements to binary space partitioning for faster render times, multiple final gathering refinement passes and new motion-based displacement. These enhancements help users create high-fidelity images faster than ever before.

Multithreaded Syflex cloth simulator: The production-proven cloth simulator in Softimage is now multithreaded, enabling artists to use the cores on their machine to iterate faster.

Scene compatibility with version 7.0: Scenes saved in Softimage 7.5 will load into Softimage 7.0.
